CORONA – The Riverside (91) Freeway will be partially shut down over three nights next week in Corona to accommodate crews working on an overpass.
The westbound 91 will be closed at Maple Street on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., according to the Riverside County Transportation Commission.
Agency officials said the closures are necessary to remove falsework attached to the new Maple Street bridge.
During each shutdown, motorists will be funneled into a “detour lane” that will spare them from having to exit the freeway and return via side streets, as has been the practice over the last year, according to the RCTC.
Real-time traffic information will be available each night at IE511.org .
All of the work is part the $1.3 billion “91 Project Fast Forward,” which began in early 2014 and involves widening the freeway between the Orange County line and Interstate 15, with new lanes and ramps, as well as additional shoulder space and expanded streets in the vicinity of the freeway.
The work is slated to conclude by mid-2017.
