Hemet man arrested in connection with car theft

SAN JACINTO – A license plate check on a sport compact car resulted in the arrest today, Dec. 29 of a Hemet man for suspicion of car theft, a police sergeant said.

The plate check on the Mitsubishi Eclipse showed it had been stolen out of Cabazon, prompting a sheriff’s deputy to pull the vehicle over at 10th Street and Santa Fe Avenue in San Jacinto at about 10:14 a.m., Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Santiago Agcaoili said.

Gerald Hicks, 40, who was behind the wheel, was arrested for possession of stolen property, vehicle theft and on a felony warrant. His passenger, Timothy J. Byer, 27, also was arrested but was booked for having two misdemeanor warrants unrelated to the alleged car theft, Agcaoili said.
