Temecula Man Charged Today with Assault of Deadly Weapon at Girl Scout

MURRIETA – A Temecula man accused of leveling a shotgun at a 7- year-old when she came to his door selling Girl Scout cookies was charged today with assault with a deadly weapon.

John Michael Dodrill, 59, was arrested Sunday and is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail at the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta.

Dodrill pleaded not guilty to the felony count when arraigned this afternoon by Riverside County Superior Court Judge Timothy Freer, who set a Feb. 14 felony settlement conference.

According to sheriff’s officials, the scout was going to door-to-door with her father, trying to sell boxes of cookies to raise funds for her troop, when she stopped at the defendant’s residence at 31082 Strawberry Tree Lane about 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

”(Dodrill) opened the door and pointed a gun at her,” Sgt. Dan Decker alleged. ”The victim’s father witnessed the incident and called (911).”

Deputies arrived at the gated community moments later and questioned Dodrill, who was taken into custody without incident, according to Decker.

He said the defendant surrendered the firearm, which was seized as evidence.

The girl’s name was not released.

I was passing out fliers in that same area when a man came running out of his house accusing me of scratching his door with the flier. He cursed at me and threw the flier on the ground. I wonder if this is the same person???? This is frightening. My twin grand daughters are 7 and they are selling Girl Scout cookies.
