Hemet Valley Art Association chooses winners in Art for Youth competition

HEMET – High School students throughout the Hemet and San Jacinto valleys competed in the second annual Art for Youth competition.

The art competition was open to all high school students throughout the valley. Students entered original works of art in oil, acrylic, watercolor, pencil, ink or pastel. Each high school was able to submit five works of art for consideration by the Hemet Valley Art Association. This event allowed students to showcase their art and to share their hard work with the community. Students who placed also received a cash reward. First place received $500, second place received $250, third place received $100 and fourth place received $50.

In first place was “Exist” by Amanda Watson of West Valley High School. Josh Duran of Alessandro High School took second place with “Skull Collection.” In third place with “Letum Amor” was Melanie Jansen of West Valley High School. Ramon Chavez of Mountain View High School took fourth place with “Seek of Sea.”

The art association named five honorable mentions: “Dress Up” by Ashley Goodale of Hemet High School, “Tradition” by Lesley Godinez of San Jacinto High School, “Untitled” by Caitlyn Lacas of Hemet High School, “The Kraken” by Hayley Tapp of West Valley High School and “Untitled” by Billy Renaut of Hemet High School.

All of the contestants’ artwork was displayed at the Hemet Valley Art Association Art Gallery throughout the month of April.
