Spirit of Great Oak celebrates Queen’s Jubilee

The Spirit of Great Oak Band & Guard were in London to perform in Her Majesty Queen of England’s Golden Crown Jubilee 2013 London New Year’s Day Parade. They performed in front of a street audience of 650,000 – including the Lord Mayors of London, the Archbishop of Westminster, and the Ambassador of the United States – and a television audience of over 220 million.

In October 2011, Sir Roger Bramble, the Lord Lieutenancy to Queen Elizabeth II, and Mr. and Mrs. Bone, CEOs of the New Year’s Day Parade traveled to Great Oak High School to personally inform the Band & Guard of their selection and to extend the invitation.

Approximately 140 students and chaperones raised over $420,000 from private and corporate sponsors to make this historic trip.
