HEMET – The Ramona Bowl Amphitheater held its President’s Gala Saturday, Jan. 20, to announce the cast of the 95th season of “Ramona.” This year, the productions will be offered April 21-22, April 28-29 and May 5-6 at the Ramona Bowl.
The 2018 cast of “Ramona” has 30 parts. The leads will played by Kayla Contreras as Ramona and Joseph Valdez as Alessandro. The rest of the cast includes Daniel Martinez as Juan, Kathi Anderson as Senora, Bret Cherland as Felipe, Cesaria Hernandez as Marda, Robert Leibovich as Padre Salvedierra, Paola Cifuentes as both Margarita and Luigo, Emilia Skye Hernandez-Minard as Dolores, Randy Dawkins as Padre Gaspara, Frank Jaramillo as Ysidro, Monica Reichl as Aunt Ri, Teresa Seaton as Mara, Rafael Wave Hernandez-Minard as Joe, Gregg Wilder as Jefferson Hyer, Dan Ferguson as Jim Farrar, Mike Thomas as Kit Carson and Jake, Eric Cervantes as Capt. Merrill, Steve Silkotch Jr. as Curly, Chris Summers as Hayton, Jesse Nechochea as Jose, Rick Hodson as Yank, J.R. Hull as a sergeant, Reuben Agualio as Capt. Hernandez, David Sandoval as Lt. Sandoval, Danny Sullivan as the wagon master and Greg Bruce and Tom Firth as cowboys and soldiers. Frank Jaramillo will be the Indian soloist.
“Ramona” has been a staple of the Hemet-San Jacinto Valley since 1923. It is the longest running outdoor drama and the official outdoor play of California. Recently, the California Department of Education said that seeing “Ramona” was more educational than making missions out of sugar cubes; all fourth-graders in the Hemet and San Jacinto have been viewing the play at no charge for over 40 years.
