TEMECULA – Shakespeare in the Vines is producing another classic tale on Feb. 15-17 and Feb. 22-24. Sheila Havens-Ryle (Queen Elizabeth I) and Roselyn Leon (Mary, Queen of Scots) will lead a cast of twelve in Peter Oswald’s critically acclaimed new version of Friedrich Schiller’s “Mary Stuart,” directed by John Leon.

Mary Stuart, former Queen of Scots, is imprisoned in England, where her very existence poses a threat, both personal and political, to her Protestant cousin, Queen Elizabeth I. In the swirl of intrigue that surrounds both women, whom can either one trust? In the crisp air of the park around Fotheringhay Castle, the two women meet.

Seduction, greed and deception lie at the heart of the bitter rivalry between Mary and her cousin, Elizabeth. “Mary Stuart” tells the story of two iconic women whose lust for power reveals one of the most thrilling displays of passion and politics the world has ever seen.
