Gabriel J. Hernandez, agricultural aide, California Department of Food and Agriculture, places an insect trap for the Mediterranean fruit fly on a fruit tree at a Camp Pendleton house in the San Luis Rey community, Dec. 18. The main areas of concern are the southern region of base. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the medfly is one of the world’s most destructive insect pest attacking more than 250 kinds of fruits, nuts and vegetables.
