18-Year-Old killed in Menifee collision

MENIFEE – An 18-year-old man was killed Tuesday, March 21, in a head-on collision in Menifee that left another motorist injured.

The deadly crash occurred just after midnight on Scott Road, less than a mile east of Merritt Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The victim, identified only as a Menifee resident, was driving his 2004 Chevrolet Impala eastbound on Scott Road when he came upon a slower-moving vehicle and attempted to pass it, going over the double yellow lines, into the opposing traffic lane, said CHP Officer Mike Lassig.

A 35-year-old Winchester man in a 2012 Ford F-350 pickup truck was headed westbound and encountered the Impala as it entered his side of the street, Lassig said.

The pickup driver did not have time “to take evasive action” and was struck head-on by the smaller vehicle, Lassig said.

The driver of the Impala suffered major injuries to his spine, neck and right leg. He was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, Lassig said.

The other driver was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, where he was treated for minor injuries and released, according to Lassig.

The crash remains under investigation.
