Agencies combine power to curb street racing in Interstate 15 corridor

FALLBROOK – Authorities announced today, Mon., July 14 that multiple agencies are combining their power to incidences of street racing that have been taking place in the Interstate 15 corridor from Fallbrook to Escondido.

The California Highway Patrol (Oceanside office), San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, and Escondido Police Department will work together to conducting ongoing street racing enforcement operations.

The three participating agencies will add extra patrols in the area to focus on illegal street racing. This ongoing joint operation is intended to send a message to drivers that illegal street racing will not be tolerated in North San Diego County.

According to officials, street racing is extremely dangerous, both to participants and onlookers, with death or serious injury a frequent consequence.

Motorists traveling at an unsafe speed are consistently found to be the number one primary collision factor (PCF) in injury collisions in California; it is among the top three PCFs when it comes to fatal collisions.

Authorities want to remind the public that street racing is always illegal. The CHP actively investigates street racing and takes enforcement action whenever possible.

Officials said public concern “makes a big difference.” Anyone who hears about a street race, planned or already conducted, is asked to call the CHP promptly.

Pretty simple, just wait between the hours of 3-6 pm and you’ll find plenty of them racing home from Escondido to Riverside County. Who said that they needed to have modified cars to be considered for freeway racing. There’s plenty of normal folks with plain vehicles that drive well over 80 mph.

    Its not the speed…
    Two biggest Problems:
    1. Texting
    2. Motorcycles sharing lanes at high speed and otherwise driving like mentally deranged fools.

I agree Preston. I’m getting darn sick and tired of idiots speeding 100+ on crotch rockets blasting between me and the vehicle next to me at freeway speeds. Happens at least five or six times a day each way! IDIOTS!

I even had a CHP lane split me at freeway speeds. I was in lane 3, alongside a semi in lane four when a CHP blasted up between us (me and the trailer of the semi). I was doing around 65, the semi maybe 60, and the CHP probably around 75-80. Scared the crap out of me.

On the hill…..I don’t blame you for driving the speed limit on one lane roads like 395….but if you going to do that on I-15 at least have the common courtesy to stay out of the #1 lane.

#6 Read my comment again. I said i drive the posted speed limit for whatever road im on. That includes the 15 . The courtesy should be that all the other drivers slow down and do the posted speed limit . Courtesy should be that the drivers hellbent for speed shouldn`t be taking innocent people down with them when they crash. If you cant control the vechicle your driving THEN DONT DRIVE!!!!!!!

@Me, so your saying that it’s not "ok" for "onthehill" to drive the posted speed limit on the freeway roads in any lanes. Wow, I wish I was a CHP officer so I can ticket all you fools that want to mow down them folks that are driving safe and not endangering your maverick lives! It’s that difficult for you to leave a bit earlier in the morning to avoid such road rage? or just better your life schedule. Be glad there’s folks like "onthehill" that sacrifice to drive the posted speed limit and keep you from killing yourself, he might be your guardian angel.

  9. Common sense   July 16, 2014 at 9:16 pm

Drive whatever speed you want. Just stay on the outside lanes and stop crying about being tailgated.

Learn how to drive….It’s the slow drivers causing the problems…stay in the right lanes….driving is not difficult….fast lane is for people who are not afraid to get a ticket….onthehill….Please stay out of fallbrook and if you take the 395 all the way to esco…then you are a moron…must take you an hour and half ….15-20 min..

onthehill & Joker it’s called Impeding traffic. haven’t you seen the signs that say
"SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT" a car driving below the "normal speed of traffic" should be driven in the right-hand lane. Because it indicates "normal speed" instead of saying "speed limit" a driver going above the speed limit but slower than most traffic is still in the wrong. You guys who try to slow traffic down are just as dangerous as the speeders

  13. Preston   July 17, 2014 at 8:22 am

I drive the 15 several day a week and have never seen this so called street racing.
Often the average speed between Fallbrook an Escondido is a little over 80 which is fine as long as those that want to go slower stay to the right side.
Again, the big problem is the:
Texters — Amazing how many there are
Motorcycle fools — Amazing how many there are — Of course there are fewer every month due to their tragic miscalculations.
I don’t believe I have ever seen a Motorcycle pull over getting a ticket and it is hard to believe they cant catch more of the texters — They are so obvious.

California needs to REMOVE the signs that say "Slower Traffic Keep Right" and REPLACE them with signs that say "Keep Right Except to Pass."

Many states use that terminology…and ENFORCE it.

New Jersey just raised the penalties for doing what YOU do onthehill….

"Drivers who hate it when fellow travelers clog the left lane, take heart. The New Jersey Senate Transportation Committee Monday advanced a proposal to increase fines for drivers who fail to stay right except to pass

  15. Me   July 17, 2014 at 11:27 am

@Joker…..When I was on highway duty back in my LE days back east….there was nobody I enjoyed writing tickets to as much as people like you….. who think they were anointed to be civilian traffic speed enforcers.

We’d drive the #1 lane…….hit the siren……travel to the front of the line…and stop and cite the first driver for hindering the flow of traffic and for failing to obey the law that clearly states…."Keep Right Except to Pass."

People that tie up the #1 lane are responsible for more accidents than speeding. People like you create road rage, force other vehicle to change lanes to go around you….and as such cause accidents.

California needs to step up and begin a program like New Jersey and many other states.

It would cut down on road rage, traffic accidents, and lower freeway congestion.
