A memorial bike ride was held last Saturday for a local cyclist and a Temecula school district teacher following his fatal accident where his bike struck a tree in San Diego County.
Randy Pruett, 41, a recent mathematics teacher at Margarita Middle School, had joined a group ride leaving from Jax Bicycle Center on Margarita Road when an unknown cause led him to crash into a tree and suffer severe abdominal internal injuries, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The cyclist lost control while on a downslope on Rice Canyon Road in the Rainbow Valley and impacted a tree. He was later admitted to Palomar Medical Center for treatment of his injuries but soon succumbed to them, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Murrieta bicycle shop planned the bike ride in memory of the cyclist at 8 a.m. on July 28 at California Oaks Sports Park in Murrieta.
Pruett was a teacher, a husband, and a father.
