Canyon Lake man accused of gunning down acquaintance arraigned

RIVERSIDE  – A man accused of fatally shooting an 18-year-old acquaintance at the victim’s Moreno Valley home pleaded not guilty today to a murder charge.
Houston Michael Boji, 19, of Canyon Lake was arrested last month after allegedly gunning down Nicholas McCauley in the 25000 block of Soaring Seagull Lane.
Along with the murder count, Boji was charged with sentence-enhancing gun and great bodily injury allegations.
He was arraigned before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Helios Hernandez at the Riverside Hall of Justice. Hernandez kept the defendant’s bail at $1 million and scheduled a felony settlement conference for Jan. 20.
Boji is being held at the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta.
According to sheriff’s Sgt. Raymond Huskey, deputies were called to the McCauley residence about 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 10 to investigate reports of a shooting. They found the victim inside a room, dead from several gunshot wounds
to the upper body, Huskey said. Boji was quickly identified as a suspect and arrested without incident
hours later.
Huskey described the two men as well acquainted, but did not disclose a possible motive for the deadly confrontation.
Boji has no prior convictions in Riverside County, according to court records.
