At approximately 7:35 a.m. this morning, January 24, during student arrival at Chaparral High School, a campus supervisor noticed a low “beeping tone” coming from one of the trash cans in the quad.
As precaution, the campus quad was cleared of students and staff. As an additional precaution the trash can was removed from the quad and taken to a safe distance to the far perimeter of campus.
With further investigation of the contents of the trash can a small electronic circuit was found. It seemed to be the inside of a toy or phone that was discarded. At that time students and staff returned to the quad and classes.
“One thing we have been preaching to the students is to throw away your trash. The message must be getting through. It appears no ill intent was at play and all students and staff handled the situation perfectly,” said Co-Principal Gil Compton.
As of 8:03 a.m. the campus was deemed safe and secure and instruction is currently taking place.
