Creating art out of recycled materials

TEMECULA – On Nov. 1, art students from MSJC Menifee Campus toured and shopped at local facility Temecula Recycling. Professor of the Art Department, Peter Mitten, has given his students an assignment to design and create a human scale piece primarily made from recycled materials.

The students are encouraged to use items such as wood, metals, fabric, and all other recycled materials. The art pieces will be put together by welding, drill and bolts, glues, binding, stick and rope or screws. The students took advantage of the “Artists Happy Hour,” which happens every Thursday, where customers get a large discount in the Surplus Store.

Many local artists have been making their art out of recycled materials that they found at Temecula Recycling.
