UPDATE: Firefighters contain 23-acre brush fire in Temecula Valley Wine Country

After a several hour fight, firefighters contained a 23-acre brush fire in Temecula Valley Wine Country on Tuesday, Oct. 10, officials said.

The fire, dubbed the Portola fire, was reported shortly before 3 p.m. in the 37200 block of De Portola Road east of Pauba Road, wrote spokeswoman Jody Hagemann in a news release.

It was burning in the hills directly across from Robert Renzoni Vineyards and Winery.

Initially the fire was reported as being between 5-10 acres in heavy brush, said April Newman, another spokeswoman.

She said about 3:15 p.m. that the fire was burning in a difficult to access area and firefighters were still trying to get to it.

Not long after, an air tanker was seen dropping water on the blaze.

The fire was contained at 6:45 p.m.

It wasn’t immediately clear Tuesday night what the cause of the fire was.
