A 31-year-old man was arrested Tuesday, Nov. 14, in connection with a series of robberies after leading Hemet police on a chase in a reportedly carjacked vehicle, police officials say.
Anthony Miguel Screws was arrested on suspicion of several counts of robbery, carjacking and felony probation violation, according to a Hemet police news release.
Police say they received a call shortly before 8:30 p.m. that a man had stolen someone’s car at gun point in a parking lot at 220 North Sanderson Avenue.
As officers obtained information at the scene, another officer conducting an area check spotted the vehicle being driven by a suspect, according to the release.
Officers chased the vehicle almost into Temecula Valley Wine Country, the intersection of Winchester and Benton roads, when the Screws jumped out and fled on foot, officials said.
He was immediately apprehended.
Police say that it was after further investigation that they linked Screws to a series of robberies that occurred in the city within the last month.
