A pedestrian was killed Wednesday night, Oct. 4, when he was struck by a car as he crossed a Hemet road, police officials say.
The incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday on Florida Avenue west of Meridian Street, according to a Hemet police news release.
Officials say that the man was crossing Florida Avenue outside a crosswalk when the driver of a 2012 Nissan Versa struck him.
The man was taken to the hospital and later died from his injuries, according to the release.
The driver of the Versa stayed at the scene. Police don’t believe the driver was under the influence, the release says, but alcohol may have played a role in the pedestrian’s actions.
The name of the man was not immediately released Thursday.
Roads were closed in the area for two hours while police investigated.
