Man in his 20s drowns in backyard pool in Riverside

A man in his 20s drowned at a backyard pool party in Riverside, a police lieutenant said today.

The incident was reported at 10:18 p.m. Saturday in the 1600 block of Southport Drive, said Riverside police Lt. Julian Hutzler.

“He was at a pool party and yanked by a patron from the bottom of the pool,” Hutzler said.

Paramedics performed CPR on the man, who was in his 20s, en route to Parkview Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead, the lieutenant said.

The man’s identity has not been released pending notification of family.

“We believe alcohol was involved,” Hutzler said.

Investigators remained at the scene interviewing guests, he said.
