PERRIS – A 61-year-old Menifee man was killed today when the bicycle he was riding was struck by a car in Perris, authorities said.
The crash happened around 9:50 a.m. in the 3100 block of Railroad Canyon Road, said Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. J.P. Strang.
The bicyclist, whose name was not released pending notification of his relatives, attempted to cross the eastbound lanes of the road from the raised concrete median when he was struck by a Honda Civic driven by 21-year-old Dylan Fisher of Yucaipa, Strang said.
”Although the bicyclist was wearing a helmet, he sustained major head trauma and internal injuries,” Strang said, adding that he man was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Fisher stopped at the scene, was interviewed and released, Strang said.
Eastbound Railroad Canyon Road was closed in the area of the crash until 2:40 p.m., Strang said.
