PINYON PINES – A distraught man who told relatives he wanted to hurt himself, and was reported missing for more than a week, was found today in Pinyon Pines.
The man, Juan Vallardares, 34, of the Coachella Valley, was found by a hiker at 1:30 p.m. in the Cahuilla Tenawet Vista Point.
He was taken to a hospital for observation and treatment of possible dehydration, Riverside County sheriff’s Deputy Armando Munoz said.
Vallardares was last seen July 25 when he asked a family member for gas money so he could leave and harm himself. He was reported missing two days later, sheriff’s authorities said.
Vallardares’ cellular phone and his red Toyota Corolla were found July 28 by U.S. Forest Service officers in the parking lot of the Cahuilla Tenawet Vista Point off Highway 74, sheriff’s authorities reported.
Since then, search teams and search dogs were used to find Vallardares, but he was not located until today.
