RIVERSIDE – A woman and her two young children were fatally stabbed today in their Riverside home, allegedly by a man who is believed to be the kids’ father, who was later shot by police on a freeway overpass.
The attack was reported shortly before 7 a.m. in a single-story house in the 10400 block of Granger Court, near Mobley Avenue, on the west end of the city, according to Riverside police Lt. Guy Toussaint.
“Officers arrived within moments after the 911 call and found three victims of a stabbing,” Toussaint said. “They rendered medical aid, and the victims were transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced deceased.”
The 25-year-old mother and children — a 4-year-old boy and year-old girl — were not immediately identified.
Toussaint said witnesses provided a description of the suspect and his vehicle, which was spotted a short time later parked at Interstate 15 and the Riverside (91) Freeway interchange.
“Corona police officers tried to make contact with the suspect, and an officer-involved shooting occurred,” the lieutenant said.
The man was hospitalized and was reportedly in stable condition.
Toussaint said the suspect was believed to be the father of the children, but he did not believe the man was ever married to the woman. His identity was not released.
