A 19-year-old Moreno Valley resident and former assistant football coach turned himself into police investigators Friday in connection with an investigation they launched into claims he inappropriately solicited several minors.
Manuel Leyva worked as an assistant football coach for Moreno Valley School District from 2012 until 2013 and it was during this time that he allegedly solicited the minors for illegal sexual acts, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s report.
A school administrator contacted a resource officer assigned to Moreno Valley High School and additional officers were called into investigate once it was determined a solicitation occurred, Sheriff’s Sgt. Joel Morales said.
“Investigators worked closely with school district administration concerning this case and determined that 19-year-old Moreno Valley resident, Manuel Leyva, had solicited one or more juveniles for sex,” Morales said in his report.
Leyva turned himself into investigators as they continued to look into his crimes. He was arrested and booked at Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside with his bail set at $1 million.
It’s believed Leyva had other victims who haven’t come forward and anyone with information in regard to Leyva is encouraged to contact Investigator James Merrill at the Moreno Valley Station at 951-486-6700.
