Motorcycle rider dies in head-on crash in Lake Elsinore

LAKE ELSINORE – A motorcyclist was killed today in a head-on crash just west of Lake Elsinore.

The wreck happened around 11:15 a.m. on the Ortega (74) Highway, near Cariso Village, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver of a Toyota compact and a motorcyclist, each coming from opposite directions, collided on a bend in the highway, the CHP reported.

The crash happened a mile from a fire station, and engine crews arrived within a couple of minutes, but the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the fire department.

The man’s identity was not immediately released.

The Toyota driver was apparently not injured.

Traffic on the Ortega was snarled because of the wreck and a road repair project happening near the location of the crash, according to the CHP.
