Murrieta City Council Member Alan William Long is under investigation by his employer to determine what repercussions, if any, the Anaheim firefighter should face after pleading guilty in a DUI case, an Anaheim public safety spokesman said.

“Now that the criminal case is complete, we have initiated an internal investigation, which could take anywhere from a few days to a few months, depending on the complexity of it and the people who will be interviewed,” Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt said.

Long is a battalion chief for the Anaheim Fire Department and has been active since his October 2014 arrest, according to Wyatt.

Well, good.He should face consequences for his actions. Now, Murrieta needs to recall him from the dais.

Alcohol is a huge problem in our country as a whole. I know people have the right to make their own choices and some are responsible with those choices and others are not. Alan Long has learned his lesson and should not have to suffer severe repercussions at his job. He is dealing with the repercussions of his actions as it is.

Many of our LEO’s, Firemen, Teachers, Politicans, Athletes, and other Public officials have been in a similar situation and have not been scrutinized like Mr. Long. His performance with the Anaheim Fire Dept should be based on how he performs his professional duties when he is in uniform.

I just hope people of all ages see the dangers of drinking alcohol. We are coming up on Super Bowl weekend where alcohol sales will sky rocket and commercials will be plastered all over the place. I do not not want to wake up that Monday morning and have to read about all of the alcohol related tragedies that could have been avoided if people would have made better choices.
