LAKE ELSINORE – Nine people were injured Saturday, Dec. 23 in a chain crash involving three vehicles that prompted a SigAlert and partial closure of Interstate 15 in Lake Elsinore.
Two people were hospitalized with major injuries, two with moderate injuries and five with minor injuries, said Jody Hagemann of the Riverside County Fire Department.
The crash was reported at 2:11 p.m. on the northbound side of the freeway, just north of Central Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A CHP incident report described people breaking the windows of one of the involved vehicles in order to free a victim from the wreckage.
The CHP issued a Sigalert and closed all lanes except for the No. 2 lane while the pileup was cleaned up.
All lanes were re-opened by 3:33 p.m.
