A man was killed Tuesday night, Oct. 31, as he crossed a roadway in Hemet and was struck by a pickup truck, officials said.
The incident happened shortly after 9 p.m. in the area of Lyon and Florida avenues.
The man was walking across Lyon Avenue when he was struck by the 2005 Dodge pickup truck that had been traveling 25 to 30 mph, according to a Hemet police news release.
The man suffered serious injuries and died at a local hospital, according to the release.
A witness told authorities that the man appeared to be talking to someone on the east side of Lyon and had been walking back and forth across the roadway before he was struck.
The driver of the pickup stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. The man is not suspected of DUI, officials say.
However, evidence found at the scene suggested alcohol could have played a role in the pedestrian’s actions, they say.
Lyon Avenue was closed in the area for about two hours for police to investigate.
