SOUTHWEST RIVERSIDE: Headline news, weather, Wed. Sept. 2

Good morning, Southwest Riverside County. Temperatures are hovering in the low 80s, high 70s for much of the region today in a welcome break from the heat.

The Riverside County Board of Supervisors met yesterday, making strides toward reducing crime around the Southwest Detention Center, and in unincorporated areas across the valleys.



Murrieta: a woman from La Quinta has pleaded not guilty to felony charges of driving drunk on Independence Day causing a fatal head-on collision near Idyllwild, then fleeing the scene. 46-year-old Maryjane Anne Plante is charged with D-U-I  gross vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run. She’s due back in court on Sept. 29 for a preliminary hearing that will determine if a trial is warranted.

Temecula: The drunk driver responsible for the accident that caused the death of two Temecula friends in July 2014 will stand trial for second degree murder.

Wildomar: A California State Assembly Bill to reinstate funds to four cities, including Wildomar, has made it to the next level and now awaits signature by Governor Jerry Brown.

A major corruption probe focussing on Palm Springs is underway. Running it are the FBI, the Internal Revenue Service and the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. Search warrants were served at City Hall yesterday morning shutting down the facility for the day. Officials later went to the home of Mayor Steve Pougnet to collect some items listed in the search warrants. But the FBI says there was no actual search of the mayor’s residence.

Temecula’s Fitz Army Metal Mulisha flew high yesterday in the America’s Got Talent performance. Locals rallied around the world famous motocross riders. Fitz Army joined the rest of the cast in a wild card performance, as Judges Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, Howard Stern and Mel B decided that motorcycle daredevils Metal Mulisha Fitz Army deserve one more chance.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside and San Bernardino counties fell today for the 19th straight day, decreasing by half-a-cent to land at $3.44.


It will be partly cloudy today, warm and breezy. In the Coachella Valley, 15-mile-per-hour winds are forecast for this afternoon. A much stronger wind event is expected in the Banning area where 30-mile-per-hour winds and 40-mile-per-hour gusts are expected in the San Gorgonio Pass.

The National Weather Service is forecasting highs of 104 in Blythe 101 in Palm Springs, Indio and Thermal, 95 in Desert Hot Springs, 85 in Riverside and Moreno Valley, 83 in Banning,82 in Hemet, 81 in Corona and Lake Elsinore, 79 in Temecula, 76 in Idyllwild, and 71 on Mount San Jacinto.

Air quality today will be in the moderate range throughout Riverside County.
