Transient found dead in Hemet parking lot identified

HEMET – The coroner’s office Sunday, Sept. 3, released the name of a 54-year-old transient who was found dead in a commercial parking lot in Hemet.

Officers found David Vannewkirk at about 7:45 p.m. Friday at 707 South Sanderson Ave. while responding to a trespassing call, Hemet police said.

Vannewkirk was pronounced dead at the scene about 20 minutes later, according to a coroner’s report.

The cause of his death was unclear, though foul play was not suspected, police said.
