Two men hospitalized with burn injuries from marijuana lab fire

SAN JACINTO – Two men remained hospitalized today with burn injuries from a fire that erupted inside a suspected marijuana lab in San Jacinto, authorities said.

The blaze broke out about 11 p.m. Thursday inside a travel trailer in the 600 block of Estudillo Avenue and took about 20 minutes to contain, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies and firefighters arrived to find the trailer fully ablaze and its two occupants a short distance away with second-degree burns covering 20-30 percent of their bodies.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Canizales said the men, aged 28 and 29, were transported to hospitals for treatment and were listed in stable condition. Their names were not released.

Canizales said an investigation revealed equipment and products indicative of hashish-making at the location. Sometimes referred to as a ”honey oil lab,” the process involves extracting oil from marijuana plants using butane, which can be explosive.
