Hundreds of paintball enthusiasts are expected at the 2014 Paintball Sports Promotions West Coast Open, which starts today in Jurupa Valley.
The tournament is expected to draw 100 teams and upward of 2,000 spectators to the Rancho Jurupa Regional Sports Park on Crestmore Road, according to the Riverside Sports Commission.
At least a dozen vendors will be on hand to showcase the latest paintball gear and promote the sport, which has its own pro division. Along with amateur matches, there will be several elite contests for internationally
ranked players, Debbi Guthrie of the Sports Commission said.
“We’re thrilled that Paintball Sports Promotions had a great experience in Riverside last year and has chosen to return,” she said. “With the popularity of paintballing in Southern California, we expect that attendance this year will far exceed last year’s.”
Today’s contests will be held between noon and 6 p.m. Events set for today through Sunday are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Most of the matches will be free to view from the sidelines. However central field competitions will require purchasing a ticket for access to the grand stands. An adult day pass is $10. Children 10 and under get in for $5.
