WINCHESTER – A motorcyclist killed in a crash in Winchester was from Chula Vista, authorities said today.
Jose Devera, 64, was pronounced dead at the scene of Sunday’s 11:14 a.m. crash on northbound Winchester Road (state Route 79) approaching Stratton Drive, according to the Riverside County coroner’s office.
Devera was driving his 2012 red Triumph Speedmaster motorcycle at 60-65 mph straight when the road curved left and his motorcycle left the roadway, said California Highway Patrol Officer Darren Meyer.
“The driver attempted to re-enter the roadway by turning his motorcycle to the left and at some point he was ejected onto the roadway,” Meyer said.
A 32-year-old San Diego man driving a black 2012 Suzuki GXSR 1000 behind the Triumph saw the other rider leave the roadway and slowed down but felt an impact on the front of his motorcycle.
“At this time it is undetermined if the Suzuki rider collided with the Triumph or the rider,” Meyer said, adding that the Suzuki rider was not hurt.
No determination was immediately made on whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, he said.
