RIVERSIDE – A low pressure system from the Gulf of Alaska will bring periods of strong and gusty west winds to the Coachella Valley and Riverside County mountains early this morning and again tonight, meteorologists said.
The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for the Coachella Valley and mountain areas until 8 a.m., saying sustained winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour and gusts of 55 mph are likely.
A wind advisory means winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds this strong can impact local roadways.
”The winds will make driving difficult, especially for motorists with high profile vehicles,” the NWS said. ”Watch for broken tree limbs and other debris.”
Another round of gusty west winds will occur tonight into early Wednesday, though speeds will be a little weaker than the winds this morning, according to the weather service.
There was also a slight chance of precipitation in Riverside County this morning, though the rain, if any, is expected to be light.
