MORENO VALLEY – A motorist who was killed when she apparently lost control of her vehicle on the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway, causing it to roll into a hillside, was identified Aug. 12 as a 47-year-old Yucaipa resident.
Edelmira Rodriguez was fatally injured just before 5 p.m. Thursday on the eastbound 60, about a mile east of Moreno Valley, in a sparsely populated area known as the “Badlands.”
According to the California Highway Patrol, Rodriguez’s 2009 Chevrolet Impala slammed into a guardrail, after which the sedan overturned and struck the hillside, flinging debris across the freeway into westbound traffic.
Rodriguez was pulled from the wreckage by Riverside County Fire Department personnel, who pronounced her dead at the scene.
Other vehicles were struck by parts of the Impala, but no other injuries were reported.
CHP officers temporarily shut down all eastbound lanes, beginning at Gilman Springs Road, to provide space for fire crews to work.
Investigators have not ruled out drugs, alcohol or “distraction” as contributing factors in the crash, according to the CHP.
