Mark Nicholas Dimitrius Trtanj

Mark Nicholas Dimitrius Trtanj, a loving son, brother, uncle and friend, left us peacefully on December 9, 2013. He finally found his way home. “Marko”, as his family called him, was born in 1954 in Detroit, Michigan – the youngest of Dr. and Mrs. Andrew Richard Trtan’s four children.

Marko graduated from Elsinore Union High School in 1972; he was a scholar as well as an all-star athlete. He was widely recruited as a quarterback when he was a sophomore at EUHS. He was voted MVP for all Riverside County in football and made all-state in football and in basketball. Marko was instrumental in carrying the 1970 EUHS baseball team to the CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) championship.

Marko had a passion for life. He was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2008 and made a pact with himself to survive – and he did. He lived his life to the fullest as only he knew how. Marko was a die-hard Democrat and very proud of his conviction. He was a voice for the homeless and the best friend anyone could ask for. Marko earned his real estate license in 2006, a goal he was determined to accomplish – and he did. He could do anything he set his mind to, something his family was very proud of.

Marko is survived by his mother, Ann; sister Cheryl, and brothers, John and Andy. “Uncle Markie” is also survived by his nieces, Lorissa and Madeline, and nephews, Kevin and Alex. He also made a lasting impression on his great nieces, Ashlee, Mackenzie and Emma.

He will forever be in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life for Marko will be held January 11, 2014 at

5 p.m. at American Legion Post #200, 18871 Grand Ave., Lake Elsinore.

God Rest Mark’s soul. I had gone to high school with Mark. Yes, he was a star in every since of the word. May he be at rest and peace.
