RIVERSIDE – A 19-year-old man who allegedly ignited several fires near a Moreno Valley intersection will ask a judge today to lower his bail so he can get out of jail.
Isaiah Hubert Whitmore of Moreno Valley was arrested the morning of May 2 3following an investigation by the Riverside County Fire Department. Whitmore was charged with five counts of arson, to which he pleaded not guilty May 25.
Superior Court Judge Samuel Diaz set the defendant’s bail at $175,000, but his public defender requested a bail review hearing in the hope of obtaining a reduction based on the defendant’s lack of criminal history.
Whitmore is being held at the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside.
According to the fire department, early last Tuesday morning, crews were called to the area of Brodiaea Avenue and Perris Boulevard, where multiple spot fires were burning. Within minutes, firefighters knocked down each blaze and soon after determined that they had been intentionally set, investigators said.
Whitmore was identified as the alleged source and was arrested without incident about 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Brodiaea and Kitching Street, according to investigators.
He has no prior documented felony convictions. No information about possible juvenile convictions was available.
