Beaumont city councilman pleads guilty to bribery, perjury

BEAUMONT – Beaumont City Councilman Mark Anthony Orozco pleaded guilty today to bribery and perjury charges.

Orozco will be sentenced to three years probation on Oct. 24, and as part of his plea agreement, will resign from the city council and pay a $10,000 fine, according to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.

According to an indictment handed down in May, Orozco willfully misclassified $50,000 of campaign money related to his unsuccessful 2014 run for the seat on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors.

He also was charged with one count of bribery for offering to vote for a pro-development candidate to fill an empty seat on the council in exchange for $15,000 from employees of a residential home building company, according to prosecutors.
If Orozco violates his probation, he could face up to four years in prison.
