RIVERSIDE- A fire broke out today in a rural area of west Riverside, threatening multiple properties until crews managed to head off the flames.
The two-acre blaze was reported just before 4 p.m. at 7355 Graylock Avenue, near Lenox Avenue, in an area known as Alessandro Heights, according to the Riverside Fire Department.
Officials said 15 homes were threatened in the first minutes of the blaze, but crews deployed for structure protection and prevented the flames from reaching the residences, none of which were damaged, Deputy Chief LaWayneHearn told City News Service.
As of 4:25 p.m., the fire’s forward rate of spread had been stopped and full containment was expected within an hour.
There were no reports of evacuations. However, access into the area was being controlled by Riverside police.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
