PERRIS – A convicted drunken driver who plowed into a fence in Perris while allegedly under the influence was released from custody today after posting a $7,500 bond.
Johnny Geronimo Cruz, 46, was arrested Sunday night and booked into the Robert Presley Jail on suspicion of DUI, DUI resulting in property damage and driving on a suspended license following the 8:30 p.m. crash in the 1100 block of Harley Knox Boulevard, near Patterson Avenue.
Cruz was at the wheel of a Chevrolet Suburban, going westbound over the speed limit on Harley Knox, when he steered the SUV across opposing traffic lanes and ran through a chain-link fence on the sidewalk, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
No other vehicles were involved.
Cruz was booked into jail after receiving a medical evaluation at Riverside University Medical Center.
According to court records, he has several prior misdemeanor DUI convictions.
