RIVERSIDE – A preliminary hearing is scheduled today, Aug. 25, for a former Corona teacher accused of having sexual relations with two girls.
Anthony Joshua Perez, 30, of Corona was arrested last November following an investigation by the Corona Police Department. He is free on $75,000 bail.
Perez is charged with statutory rape, oral copulation of a minor, possession of child pornography, distributing obscene material to a child and sexual penetration with a foreign object. Today’s hearing will determine whether there is sufficient evidence to warrant a trial on any of the five counts.
According to Corona police Sgt. Paul Mercado, detectives began investigating the defendant after they were contacted by Fontana police regarding evidence they had uncovered during an unrelated child annoyance report naming Perez as the suspect.
Mercado said that Perez, who taught several years at Lee Pollard High School, allegedly became sexually involved with the two girls between Dec. 2010 and April 2011. Detectives tried to determine if there were additional victims, but none were identified.
The two Corona girls have since graduated from school.
Perez has no prior documented felony convictions.
