MORENO VALLEY: Woman ditches injured passengers, flees after smashing into bank

MORENO VALLEY — A woman left her two injured passengers behind and fled after she smashed into a bank Friday, June 23. The early-morning hit and run happened at BBVA Compass Bank at the intersection of Sunnymead Boulevard and Heacock Street in Moreno Valley.

City of Moreno Valley Police and Fire officials were dispatched to the scene of the crash shortly before 1:30 a.m., after the wreck was reported to emergency dispatchers.

At least one witness said that after the accident, a woman with blond hair carrying a red purse fled on foot, running westbound on Sunnymead Blvd.

The driver left her injured passengers behind inside the silver Honda Pilot, which sustained heavy front-end damage in the collision.

Firefighter/paramedics treated the two injured passengers before AMR medics transported them to an area hospital. The nature and full extent of their injuries was not known.

The bank sustained moderate damage, with a section of the exterior wall and a large window destroyed. A wood pillar was also sheared in half and firefighters used a chainsaw to cut off the remaining portion of the pillar. A board-up company later responded to the bank to temporarily board over the damaged section of the building.

It was not immediately known if deputies were able to locate the woman who reportedly fled. No further details were about the hit and run accident were available.
