PALM SPRINGS: Man Killed in Solo Vehicle Palm Springs Crash

PALM SPRINGS (CNS) – A man was killed today when his car slammed into a traffic pole in Palm Springs, leading police to shut down the street as they investigated the circumstances behind the collision.

The crash occurred at 5:46 p.m. in the 700 block of North Gene Autry Trail, where police found the car had struck the pole head on, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.

The driver and lone occupant of the car, John Cheatham, 83, of Desert Hot Springs died at a hospital, according to the Riverside County coroner’s office. He was alone in the vehicle, police said.

Palm Springs police shut down Gene Autry Trail between Escena Way and Tachevah Drive as they investigate the crash.

Motorists are advised to use Farrell Drive in Palm Springs or Landau Boulevard in Cathedral City to avoid the crash scene.
