PALM SPRINGS – The city of Palm Springs today announced its official account on the Chinese app WeChat, which tourism officials say will help attract Chinese tourists to the desert.
The Palm Springs WeChat account will provide “962 million monthly active (WeChat) users” with information in Mandarin regarding hotels, shopping, restaurants, sightseeing and more in the Palm Springs area, tourism officials said.
China is the “fastest growing international market for Palm Springs,” according to Palm Springs Board of Tourism officials, who said the app has garnered a “93 percent download rate among Chinese smartphone users.”
“Palm Springs is eager to welcome more Chinese visitors,” said Mary Jo Ginther, director of tourism for the Palm Springs Board of Tourism. “We look forward to utilizing WeChat to spread the word about our 350 days of sunshine, distinctive mid-century architecture, designer shopping and abundance of hotel options to China’s large base of sophisticated travelers.”
