RIVERSIDE – Gusty Santa Ana winds are expected to develop in the valleys around Riverside tonight but should ease up by the weekend.
A National Weather Service wind advisory for the valleys of Riverside County, including the cities of Norco and Corona, is scheduled to take effect at 11 p.m. and extend until 5 p.m. Friday. Winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour were forecast for the advisory period, along with gusts of 35 to 45 mph.
The advisory does not include the Coachella Valley, but forecasters said winds of 15 to 20 mph would be possible today with gusts that could reach 40 mph this afternoon.
“Winds will begin to strengthen tonight, peaking early Friday morning,” according to the weather service. “Winds will slowly weaken Friday afternoon into Saturday.”
Forecasters said the wind may lead to hazardous travel conditions along portions of Interstate 10. Minor damage to small trees and unsecured outdoor objects may also be possible.
