Two drunk drivers arrested at checkpoint

PALM DESERT – A driver’s license and sobriety checkpoint in Palm Springs nabbed two drunk drivers, a sheriff’s sergeant said Sunday, Dec. 24.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department conducted the checkpoint between 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22 and 3 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23 at Washington Street and Fred Waring Drive.
Of the 1,237 drivers who passed through the checkpoint, two people were arrested for drunk driving and 12 people were either cited or arrested for driving unlicensed or with a suspended license, said Sergeant Jorge Ramirez.
In addition, 17 citations were issued for various other vehicle code violations.
The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
