NUEVO – Details were still being sorted out today regarding the death of a 5-year-old boy who apparently shot himself after getting hold of a pistol at a Nuevo residence, in what authorities believe was a tragic accident.
”As far as how he got shot, the investigators are (trying) to confirm how it occurred,” said Deputy Albert Martinez, a Riverside County sheriff’s spokesman. ”There are no outstanding suspects, and this appears to be accidental.”
The victim, identified only as a Los Angeles boy, died around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday from a gunshot wound. According to authorities, the child was in a single-story house in the 31000 block of Wolfskill Avenue at the time.
One adult, possibly the boy’s grandfather, was present when the shooting happened and flagged down a neighbor for help, prompting calls to 911.
Sheriff’s officials said around 200 marijuana plants were found at the rear of the property, but the cannabis was unrelated to the shooting investigation.
Investigators seized the plants, as well as an unconfirmed amount of processed marijuana, according to the sheriff’s department.
NUEVO – An investigation was continuing today into the accidental shooting death of a 5-year-old boy at a residence in the rural community near Perris, where several hundred marijuana plants were found growing in the back yard, sheriff’s officials said.
The shooting was reported around 5:20 p.m. Tuesday in the 31000 block of Wolfskill Avenue in Nuevo. The child was found dead inside the residence, and his death was being investigated as accidental, Riverside County sheriff’s Deputy Albert Martinez said.
Marijuana plants were found at the rear of the property, but marijuana had nothing to do with the shooting, he said. About 200 plants were confiscated, he said.
