Parolee to stand trial for allegedly sexually assaulting runaway girl

RIVERSIDE – A parolee accused of abducting and sexually assaulting a runaway girl in Riverside must stand trial on felony charges, a judge ruled today.

Eric Dean Boettcher, 35, of Jurupa Valley was arrested in February and accused of repeated assaults on an 11-year-old child, identified in court documents only as Jane Doe.

Following a preliminary hearing at the Riverside Hall of Justice, Riverside County Superior Court Judge Richard Fields found there was sufficient evidence to warrant a trial on four counts of lewd acts on a victim under 14, and one count each of kidnapping a minor to commit a sexual assault and supplying illegal drugs to a child.

Fields also held the defendant to answer numerous sentence-enhancing allegations, including inflicting bodily harm on a minor and abducting a victim with the intent to commit a sexual offense.

The judge scheduled a post-preliminary hearing arraignment in the case for Aug. 18. Boettcher remains in custody in lieu of $2 million bail at the downtown Riverside jail.

The 11-year-old girl victim away from home on Feb. 14 and was picked up minutes later as she walked along a roadway, according to police.

The motorist, later identified as Boettcher, stopped his gray pickup truck and convinced the youth to ride with him, Riverside police Lt. Victor Williams alleged.

”The suspect subsequently took the juvenile to an uninhabited area and sexually assaulted her,” Williams alleged. ”The victim was then driven around the Riverside area and eventually taken to a motel in Corona, where she was given drugs and sexually assaulted again.”

The following day, Boettcher allegedly drove the girl to a deserted parking lot and let her out, after which she walked to a nearby police station and revealed what had happened, according to Williams.

Detectives with the police department’s Sexual Assault & Child Abuse unit initiated an investigation that pointed to Boettcher as the alleged perpetrator, Williams said.

The defendant was located on Bain Street in Jurupa Valley, where he was arrested without incident.

According to court records, Boettcher has prior felony convictions for grand theft, stalking and illegal possession of a controlled substance.
