Police seek suspect in fatal stabbing of man in Downtown Riverside

A man was stabbed outside a music venue in Riverside’s historic downtown area just before midnight, and died minutes later today.

Bruce Mackey, 41, of Moreno Valley was found dying on the street when police received a “subject down” call at 11:50 p.m. Saturday from the Mission Tobacco Lounge on University Avenue, Riverside police Sgt. Dan Russell said.

They found a victim suffering from stab wounds.

The victim was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries.

Police reports indicate the victim had walked up to the suspect, who was sitting on a curb. Russell said the suspect stood up, stabbed the victim for no apparent reason and walked away.

The suspect was described as a bald Latino in his mid 20s or 30s with a muscular build. Police did not know if he was acquainted with the attacker.

The victim’s name was not released while police notify his family.

Police asked anyone with information about the case to call Riverside police Detective Rick Cobb at (951) 353-7135 or Detective Mike Medici at (951) 353-7104.

I love how law enforcement makes a statement, not even being in the area, "for no reason". Aren’t you innocent until PROVEN guilty? Doesn’t that statement already tell us what law enforcement has in their minds? And now they go out and make the story fit the assumption!

@drhill…if you read the article, it says according to police reports…police reports consist of statements from witnesses & others in the area at the time that the crime occurred- it’s not an assumption made by police when it states "for no apparent reason". That just means, anyone who may have seen this happen, relayed that info to police & it was entered into the police report….and nowhere in the article does it state that anyone is guilty of anything.
