Two men and a minor were behind bars today in connection with a home invasion robbery during which the homeowner was shot.
The robbery was reported about 6 a.m. Monday in the 1300 block of Avenida Garnette, sheriff’s Sgt. Robert Duckett said. Deputies arrived to find the homeowner suffering from a gunshot wound, the sergeant said.
Witnesses reported hearing gunfire and an argument among three neighborhood residents, who were discussing the break-in, Duckett said.
The investigation led officers to a house in the 1200 block of Da Vinci Drive. Deputies, with help from a sheriff’s K9 and a helicopter crew, surrounded the home and a brief standoff ensued, Duckett said.
A sheriff’s dog was sent in and the suspect was found in a bedroom and arrested, the sergeant said.
Investigators then went to another home in the 1300 block of Avenida Garnette, where the other two suspects were believed to be.
One suspect was arrested as he left the residence, and authorities again surrounded the home, prompting a lengthy standoff that ended when a sheriff’s SWAT team used a “diversionary device” and took the third suspect into custody, Duckett said.
Edward Rudolfo Ybarra, 20, Corey Nelson, 23, and the juvenile, whose name was withheld, were booked for investigation of home invasion robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and conspiracy, Duckett said.
A condition report on the victim, whose name was withheld, was not immediately available.
