The Menifee Police Department Traffic Unit arrested three people on suspicion of driving under the influence during one of their regularly scheduled DUI checkpoints from 8:00 p.m. Saturday to 2:00 a.m. today, a Sheriff’s official reported.
The checkpoint, which was located in the area of Newport Road and Lone Pine Street in Menifee, saw 1,000 vehicles and 65 of those were directed to a secondary screening area, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department report.
Ten motorists were given field sobriety tests and two of the drivers were arrested for suspicion of drunken driving and one of the drivers was arrested for drugged driving. Additionally, 15 drivers were cited for driving without a license and 11 vehicles were towed, according to the report.
The checkpoint was funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
