The Vista Murrieta Broncos opened with a 41-18 first half and a win against San Jacinto 68-42. Austin Beech was on fire, hitting seven of eight shots from the floor; he was 100% from the free throw line (2/2) and from the three-point line (1/1). Beech finished with 17 points, ten rebounds and three steals in eighteen minutes of play.
Cameron Eakins hit five of his six shots and one-of-two from the charity stripe for eleven points. Jacob Perry also had eleven points on 60% shooting. Spencer Benson was cold from beyond the arc (0/4) but 100% from two-point range and the free throw line to contribute ten points. He also had three steals.
Both teams were dismal from three-point land. Vista Murrieta went 2-for-10 and San Jacinto was 1-for-9.
Vista plays tomorrow night at 5 pm at Poly HS against the winner of the Arroyo Valley and Valley View game.
Sixteen teams are competing in the Riverside Kiwanis Tournament held at three Riverside high schools: Arlington, Poly, and Ramona. The tournament runs from Tuesday, December 10 to Friday, December 13 with the third place (6 pm) and championship (7:30) games at Poly High School.
In addition to the host teams, other teams include Arroyo Valley, Valley View, Vista del Lago, Murrieta Mesa, Tahquitz, Arrowhead Christian, San Gorgonio, Patriot, Rialto, Indian Springs and a second team from Poly.
